Literally "kimono" (Japanese) translates as "outfit". Many years ago, this name meant the clothes worn by the people of Japan. Gradually, European clothing became more and more attractive to the Japanese, it began to be found everywhere. Europe called the kimono the national Japanese outfits, and soon the Japanese themselves began to make them as well. Today, kimonos are produced by firms specializing in sportswear. Kimonos have long ceased to look like "robes" that can be seen in ancient images. The modern kimono is a sports uniform designed for fighting the national Japanese types.
